The Anointing

I just read a great book on the Anointing by R.T. Kendall, former pastor of Westminster Chapel. He talks about yesterday's man--Saul, today's man--Samuel, and tomorrow's man--David. Some of the thoughts are pretty profound and life changing.
Yesterday's man is someone who "ceases to be relevant." "They get stuck in a particular manifest of God's glory and want to perpectuate that manifestation rather than be open to the many ways God may yet manifest His glory." Kendall says, "The greatest opposition to what God is doing today comes from those who were on the cutting edge of what God was doing yesterday." What a warning!
Kendall says, "The anointing is what comes easily." And its something you can't turn off or turn on. It's hard to describe, but you know it when you're preaching under the anointing and you know when you're not. There is a difference between preaching because you have to (you're on the schedule) and preaching because you have to (you've got a word from God).
I think one attritbute of healthy people is their ability to laugh at themselves! We tend to take ourselves too seriously! Kendall says, "There is great peace when we come to terms with our limitations." The anointing allows us to be ourselves. Kendall quotes Pete Cantrell. "The greatest liberty is having nothing to prove." Read that again!
"Accepting our limitations is essential to accepting our anointing." I think part of maturity is understanding who you are and who you're not.
