Gospel Journey: Part 12
I finished my gospel journey today. I can't wait to begin my journey thorough Acts!
I was reminded again that there is some wild and wacky stuff that happens when you follow Jesus. One of the miracles that fits into that category is Matthew 17:27. Jesus tells Peter to, "Go to the lake and throw your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours." What would we do if Jesus asked us to do that? Would we think he's crazy? Or would be obey?
Jesus said in Matthew 18:18, "Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven." Lord, help me function in the spiritual authority I've been given. I don't think we know the first thing about how much authority there is in the name of Jesus. I want to become more "authoritative" in my relationship with Christ. I want to take authority instead of deferring responsibility.
There is a great line in Matthew 20:22: "You don't know what you're asking for." How true is that. Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers! I think we'll thank God as much for the prayers he didn't answer as the ones he did.
I've always been challenged by the question Jesus asked the disciples in Matthew 26:40: "Couldn't you keep watch with me for one hour?" I'm going to "keep watch" an hour a day during the Pentecost Fast. I really want my antenna to be way up so I can get a signal. I'm believing God to speak into my life in new ways during these ten days!
One last thought. Jesus asks a question that is so central to what I talked about Sunday. In Matthew 20:32, Jesus asks: "What do you want me to do for you?" I think He's still asking that question. But most of us have no idea! Here's what I know for sure: God wants to do and is able to do more for us that we can imagine!
