40 Day Fast
My experiment with spirtual disciplines continues. Last year I began a 40 day fast on 07.14 as a way of remembering II Chronicles 7:14. I going to do it again this year. Last year I fasted coke and I read the Old Testament. I went into the 40 days without clearly defined goals other than I wanted to seek God with greater intensity and intentionality. It was also birthed out of my spiritual heritage series. So I was praying that God would turn Washington, DC upside down!
This year I'm going to fast TV for forty days (07.14 to 08.22). And I'm going to study the NT epistles. I feel like I want to go for depth instead of breadth this time around. Once again, I'm not sure what God will do during these forty days, but I'm excited about putting a parenthesis around these forty days.
For what it's worth, I'm a goal-oriented person. One of the things that I've learned is that I need to marry spiritual disciplines with goals. It's the way I stay motivated and energized. Without a defined goal I tend to drift.
