i think it is interesting that the words describing this site are orginality, authenticity, and creativity and the the entire logo was COPIED (or stolen) from Cataylst conference! IRONIC???

This sort of thing seems pretty common place in Christian circles. Why is it that Christian organizations have such a tough time being orginal??

Nothing is original except God :) The most creative people are the those who "steal" and give credit where credit is due :) So thanks to Catalyst who probably got the "vintage" look from Relevant who probably go it from somebody else :) I think it ought to be humbling and honoring when someone does something similar to what you're doing. It's a compliment. I know there's a fine line between cloning and adapting, but I hope we're on the adapting side of the ledger. Does that make sense?

Alot of our ideas are original but many of them are adaptations of other ideas. Our Praizd videos are an evolution of MTV's show Punkd. I think we actually redeemed the idea. On one level it's "stealing." On another level it's be "shrewd as snakes" and "innocent as doves." I hope people take our stuff and make it better :)

We're all in this thing together! That's what the buzz conference will be about. Let's learn from each other. It's called benchmarking or best practices.

Hope that frames my blog and your comment. Feel free to comment on my comment.

Had another thought about this.

I'm not sure "originality" is humanly possible. In a sense, the only one who can create ex nihilo (out of nothing) is God. I do think, however, that the more you become like God the more original you become. We have a core value: maturity doesn't equal conformity. Too many Christians settle for what I'd call "psuedo spiritual maturity"--they look alike and talk alike--and that is their way of measuring maturity. Don't get me wrong. Spiritual maturity results in conformity to Christ. So we look more and more like Jesus. But that doesn't mean we look more and more like each other. True spiritual maturity results in originality. We become the unique person God has created us to be.

I think originality is finding "new combinations." It is coming up with "new wineskins" for old ideas. For example, our 2005 AMR design is unique and original. Or is it? We got the template idea from a movie poster. Does that make it "unoriginal"? I don't think so. We just found a new combination. An original use.

My thinking about "originality" is evolving. I think we all need a level of humility. Everything originates with God :) We also need a level of curiosity. We ought to be like scientists in a lab or kids in a sandbox--experimenting with new things. And at the end of the day, Humility + Curiosity = Originality.

Now I'm rambling...
