first swim meet
Today was a momentous day in the Batterson family. Summer had her first swim meet. Internally, we were hoping she'd make it across the pool without being disqualified (she's only been on the swim team three weeks). But she actually won her heat :) I know it's not an Olympic Gold, but we were pretty excited for Summer!
You experience interesting emotions as a parent when your kids are in new situations like this. You feel vulnerable. That's the only way I can describe it. I think first experiences with anything set a precedent so they're pretty important. I know that setbacks and disappointments build character and strength. And everybody experiences them along the way. But, as a protective parent, you want you kids to be successful right out of the gate. I think, in some ways, Lora and I were more excited for Summer than she was :)
For what it's worth, no one rejoices over us like our Heavenly Father! I think God finds His greatest joy enjoying us.
