film festival
I think we might try to sponsor a DC film festival next year. The Journey (www.nyjourney.com) up in New York city has been doing one for a few years and we did a little recon there this summer.
But I had another idea for the Buzz conference. It'd be cool to have churches submit their "best videos" and do a "church film festival." We could do an optional evening session where we show the "top ten" and give away a DVD sampler to conference attendees. It'd be a fun way to do idea sharing and make the conference more synergistic.
I love watching what over churches are doing. If we all keep leap-frogging each other who knows where we'll end up.

That would be way cool. Definitely an off-the-hook idea.
funnily enough i just proposed a similar idea as part of the conference i'm planning. if our steering committee approves it, i'd love to feed my call for films through some of those networks.
I'd love to dialogue about it. Email me (mark@theaterchurch.com) and we can share some ideas and networks and resources! If we all play leap-frog with each other God can do some pretty amazing things!
How about using the Web - it's cheaper and has a larger audience. Look at the article Thursday n the Wash Post on the 29 year old who looks like a kid. He posted a video of himself in his room talking about how "gay" the superbowl is - two years later he has his own show on MTV - all because of a goofy video on the internet.
Independent movies have a poor history in this town. Just look at what has closed over the last decade - the Key in Georgetown, the Biograph in Georgetown, the Cinema around 20th and Florida, NW, which then turned into Visions which closed last year (Incidentally Visions used to be part of the DC Film festival), the MacArthur cinema. What I love about NCC is it's ability to adapt to the latest turns in media.
Other ideas - Christian song cell phone rings - free for downloading. PodCasting, Borfisms. (well - mabe graffitti is not the best - but look how much buzz that kid produced in DC and around the world through his graffitti art), marketing through bars (Christian happy hours serving wine and bread - Guinness for the irish). If I could think of a way to promote and create a buzz for Jesus with the same gusto that strip clubs promote a buzz about themselves I think I'd be on to something. Wait a minute - I think I have something - instead of Popcorn boxes - we could put dollars in the Pastors pants - just kidding.
