Bullseye

Bookmark and Share

It's hard to describe what God is doing @ NCC right now. He's turning up the BTUs. The tide is coming in. He's reving the engine. Those are the images that come to mind.

Every year we go into our fall series with a ton of thought and prayer. We really try to get a pulse on what God wants to do in us corporately. Last year's fall series, ID: The True, hit the bullseye. I think Wired for Worship is splitting that arrow!

I preached from II Samuel 6 yesterday where David brings the Ark back to Jerusalem and cuts the rug. He takes off his royal robes and does a holy jig. One of the things I talked about was inhibitions. There were no inhibitions in Eden before Adam and Eve sinned. Self-consciousness was a byproduct of the fall. For what it's worth, there won't be any inhibitions in heaven either!

I think our self-consciousness keeps us from worshipping the way we could and should. One of my touchstones during this series is this: don't let what's wrong with you keep you from worshipping what's right about God. It's all about focus. Are you self-conscious? Or are you God-conscious? Are you focused on what's wrong with you? Or are you focused on what's right with God? The enemy tries to get us to exclusively focus on what's wrong with us. FYI--the big idea next Sunday is: your focus determines your reality.

Anywho.

We had a Catacombs event last night. It was amazing. We usually do our Catacombs at Club Nation, the largest nightclub in DC. But they had an event so we rented a space at Eastern Market on Capitol Hill. It was a totally cool space and we had lots of people who live in the neighborhood just come and check it out because of our noise pollution :)

We worshipped for about ninety minutes. We started out old school accapella singing I Love You Lord and Holy Ground. Then we ramped up and ended with celebratory worship. We celebrated like we've never celebrated before. It's awesome to see people freed up to praise God with their voices and with their bodies. I love seeing people get excited about God.

Eight times in the Psalms it says "Sing a new song." I think that has universal application. We need to be constantly experimenting with new ways of worshipping God. Not just words. That includes postures! The rapture machine was warming up last night. Some people were definitely getting off the ground in worship!

I've recently begun to lower my inhibitions in praise. But one of the hallmark, eureka moments I had this summer was realizing in my heart that the Lord DELIGHTS in our praise. He gets excited about it! He loves to see us make much of Him the same way a Dad loves to see his son/daughter make much of who he is as a parent, except on a much, much larger scale that we won't even begin to comprehend this side of heaven.

Can we have a Catacombs event every Sunday night? Pleeeeease? :)
