Jack Squat

Here's my thought for the day: without God we're Jack Squat.

I was so impressed during Men's prayer today that we're totally dellusional. I'm not sure how to put this into words, but here's a mental picture. Imagine someone facing the eastern horizon and motioning in a dramatic gesture intended to make the sun rise. And the sun comes up. And they think their dramtic gesturing did it. Are you kidding me? Your motioning had nothing to do with it. Each of us is that person.

Every breath is a gift from God. Every heartbeat. Every sunrise.

Nothing is man-u-factured. Everything is Godufactured.

Every ounce of energy, every penny, every second of time, every thought, every talent, every opportunity, every blessing is a gift from God. Without God we're nothing. Less than nothing.

Acts 17:25 is one of my prayer mantras: "it's in Him that we live and move and have our being."

Job 34:14 is one of my fall-back positions. Whenever I start getting heady, this verse keeps me humble! "If God were to take back His Spirit and withdraw his breath, all life would cease and humanity would return to dust."

Here's my translation: without God we're not even Jack Squat.

Open our eyes, God. Help us see that "every good and perfect gift" comes from above!
