Kick Off

We kicked off our Wired for Worship series today. We try to organize all of our services around one Big Idea. Today's big idea was: you can't not worship.
I've found that I "feel" different messages in different ways. I preached from the pit of my soul this morning.
One observation.
I think of worship in two categories. Preperatory worship is pre-message worship. I think of it as tuning in God's frequency. It gets us ready to hear the word. Responsive worship is post-message worship. It's a way to give expression to what God has spoken to you.
Our typical order of service includes 3-4 preparatory worship songs and 1 responsive song. We mixed it up this morning because we wanted worship to be a response to the message. We choose songs that lyrically piggy-backed off of the message--Heart of Worship, I Will Not Forget You, and Blessed Be Your Name.
I ended up at our Ballston location this week. The responsive worship was some of the most intense Sunday AM worship we've exeperienced in a long time. It was hard to stop worshipping!
One thought.
I feel like one of Satan's tricks is getting us to focus on what's wrong with us instead of worshipping what's right about God. It's one of my worship mantras, but I feel like it's so integral to this series: don't let what's wrong with you keep you from worshipping what's right with God.

Mark,
Loved your message this morning. The Holy Spirit revealed to me several things I'm holding in high esteem above the Lord and they're--guess what? Gifts that God has given me... Golden calf, anyone?
I always, always, always leave NCC on Sunday mornings with a new perspective in my walk with Christ.

pastor mark, thanks for putting a very old story into a completely new perspective. You brought up details (some more vivid than others!) that I had never thought about and can now never ignore. Thanks, and I am praying in expectation for what God is going to do in the coming weeks. nathan.
Hey, Mark,
I posted this quote and linked to this article on my blog, today:
"I feel like one of Satan's tricks is getting us to focus on what's wrong with us instead of worshipping what's right about God. It's one of my worship mantras, ... don't let what's wrong with you keep you from worshipping what's right with God."
Great stuff! Good reminders to us all about what it's really all about, anyway...
