Regular blog readers know that I talk about "God ideas" a lot. I think there are good ideas and God ideas. Here's the difference: a God idea originates with the Holy Spirit. Sometimes it's tough to discern between good and God.
Here's the bottom line: I'd rather have 1 God idea than a 1000 good ideas.
I really believe that GodiPod.com is a God idea. But even God ideas can seem like bad ideas at times. Remember when Peter stepped out of the boat in the middle of the lake in the middle of the night? It was a God idea. Jesus told him to come. But when he saw the wind and the waves he thought the God idea was a bad idea. And he started to sink.
I feel a little like Peter. Every once in a while I wonder if the God idea was a bad idea :) My head is definitely spinning this week. I don't know how all the loose ends are going to come together. I'm trying not to focus on the wind and waves. I'm trying to focus on Jesus saying come :)
All of that to say this. I got a huge encouragement from Scripture this morning. I think the Holy Spirit led me to Nehemiah 7:5. I already had a phrase underlined in my Bible. But I needed to read it this morning :) It says, "God gave me the idea." Man, I needed that :)
I feel like that verse patted me on the back this morning and encouraged me to keep on keeping on!

Mark,
I am enjoying reading your blog. I was referred by one of the members of your church. This is an interesting discussion of good ideas and God ideas.
A question for you: When Peter walked on water, was it really a God idea?
I look forward to seeing more development on the GodiPod site.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Brian
I think getting out of a boat in the middle of the lake definitely qualifies :)
It was God-ordained. Peter didn't just "go." Jesus said "come."
By the way, that is the kind of situation that you want to make sure it's God-inspired :)
Otherwise it's sink or swim :)
ditto that!
Mark,
This post on good ideas vs. God ideas reminds me of something I saw on the Fast Company site.
It's an exerpt from a book by an adverstising legend called "Then We Set His Hair On Fire".
He tells the difference between ideas and INSIGHTS.
He says...
"Insight is much rarer -- and therefore more precious. In the advertising business, a good idea can inspire a great commercial. But a good insight can fuel a thousand ideas, a thousand commercials."
I'm praying and craving for God's insights as we gather this church in CA.
You can see the whole exerpt from this book here.
It's something that would really resonate with you.
