Your leadership gifts have the potential to take you further than your character can sustain you. Leaders get in trouble when their character doesn't keep pace with their momentum. The love of progress sets us up for temptation. Isn't that at the heart of Jesus' temptation in the wilderness? The devil promised Jesus a shortcut. He promised progress, but Jesus would have had to compromise spiritually.
Read I Samuel 24. David could have killed Saul and assumed the throne. But he would have sacrificed integrity on the altar of progress.
