Tabernacle Stations

Heather Zempel, our Pastor of Discipleship, led our Upward Bound sesion last night. She taught on the Old Testament tabernacle, juxtaposed it with the New Testament, and then we did tabernacle stations.

We celebrated communion at the brazen altar. We wrote a confession on our hands and washed it off at the Laver. We anointed with oil and prayed for people at the Candlestick station. We meditated on Scripture at the Table of shewbread. We wrote out our thanksgiving at the altar of incense. Then we walked through a torn veil into the Holy of Holies where we interceded for others and wrote out a prayer for them. We even put them into a faux Ark of the Covenant.

For what it's worth, I think these stations make a great model for prayer. Experiment with it in your personal devotions. Or try it out on your next church retreat.

Thanks, Pastor Mark! For anyone that might be interested, I posted some of the notes from the Tabernacle Session over at the small groups blog at zonegathering.blogspot.com-- http://zonegathering.blogspot.com/2005/10/tabernacle.html
