coffeehouses

As we get ready to launch our coffeehouse on Capitol Hill I continue to do research. Came across something interesting this week: in 1990 there were only 200 freestanding coffeehouses in the U.S. That's hard to believe isn't it? There are now more than 14,000 and Starbucks owns 30% of them!

Once we open Ebenezers we'll own .007% of them :)

Our church is portable, we meet in a High School, and we're seriously praying about remaining portable indefinatly and opening a coffeehouse. Is your Buzz Conference going to address Coffeehouses?

Scott,

I think we're kindred spirits. I went into this thing thinking "rent until you can buy" but now I'm thinking "rent forever" because we're in the middle of the marketplace. It's part of our DNA. Our macro vision is to meet in movie theaters @ metro stops throughout the DC area. We also love club environments and I think we're viewing our coffeehouse on Capitol as the first of many :)

Buzz won't focus on the coffeehouse piece, but I think it'd be worth the fieldtrip to see the place and to see the way we're branding Ebenezers as a place where the community and church cross paths. It'll give you one model.
