An auction, a three-ring binder, and a coffeehouse
This past weekend Lora and I went to a school auction where our kids attend. I had a faith flashback while I was there.
It was four years ago at our first auction that I bid on a three-ring binder donated by the Historic Preservation Society. It was filled with factoids about building in the historic district.
I don't think anybody else bid on it :) I got it for $75. I bought it because we were interested in a piece of property at the corner of 2nd and F Streets, NE and I thought the binder would help me research zoning and building codes. I studied that binder backwards and forwards. I still have it. I bid on that binder in faith that we'd someday own 201 F Street, NE and build a coffeehouse there.
In about six weeks the dream of building a coffeehouse on Capitol Hill will become a reality. But big dreams often start with small seeds. In this case, the seed of faith was a binder at an auction that no one else cared about.
Just thought I'd share a little backstory on the coffeehouse dream.

Are you fashioning your headings as tributes to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? ;)
Mark thats awesome man...I love hearing stories like this....it's amazing to look back and see what a little dream just 4 yrs. ago has turned into....that's really cool man!
cool story.
prayers for you.
great story. isnt it amazing to see how God had his hand in gettng you to that place, at that time, to buy that binder. Reminds me of when Jesus told the disciples to fish for the tax money they needed. I love divine appointments.
