I've been reading alot lately about the emergence of broadband TV.

I think the tectonic plates will shift and computers will morph into TVs and TVs will morph into computers. I know that isn't a novel thought. Lots of technologies are converging. Phones are exhibit A--they have incorporated cameras, MP3 players, Palms, and email. But the momentum seems to be picking up steam with TV.

BusinessWeek had an interesting article on broadband channels. The biggest names in TV are using broadband channels to reach younger audiences. MTV, Comedy Central, and ABC news have all launched broadband counterparts to their regular channels.

You think a hundred cable channels or six hundred satellite dish channels are alot? Wait till bloggers become TVoggers.

Evotional.TV anyone? We've got the domain name. We've got the concept. All you need is good content and anyone can have their own broadband channel. We'll start experimenting with a video podcast and streaming our messages online beginning the first week of February. We're viewing the lower level of Ebenezers as a sanctuary/studio. We can only seat 150 but we can broadcast or vidcast or podcast to millions!

I had a meeting with an NCCer who works for God.TV this week. Got a tour of their state-of-the-art production room and set. Pretty amazing the way God has blessed them. But we also talked about how cost-prohibitive it is to get into the broadcast business. It takes hundreds of millions of dollars barring a miracle--which they experienced :)

But broadband TV will cost pennies!

Podcasting has given anyone the ability to have their own "radio show." Broadband has given anyone the ability to have their own "TV show." Add vidcasting and the video iPod to the mix and shows can go right to syndication :)

The church needs to be in the business of redeeming technology and using it to serve God's purposes! Technology is opening doors of opportunity that have never existed before. It's all about the Great Commission!

The day will come when we stop asking "what's on TV" and start asking "what's online"?

That's my prediction. I'm sticking with it :)
