Life Without Parole
Got a random call from a former college professor today.
Wasn't sure what to call him :) Do I still refer to him as "Dr." or do I go with first name!
Can you say awkward in Spanish :)
Anywho.
He asked if I would have any interest in teaching pastoral ministry at the Christian College he's at. I feel sort of bad, but I didn't even offer to "think" or "pray" about it :) I think I said "no" too quick. I was totally honored by the offer, but I'm so committed to where I am that I honestly can't imagine doing anything else.
I think one key to a healthy marriage between pastor and congregation is knowing that your pastor is 100% committed. It gives the same kind of security that a marriage has when divorce is not an option. Lord willing, I hope I'm still doing what I'm doing twenty-five years from now!
One of my dreams has always been to pastor one church for life.
I honestly can't imagine pastoring anywhere else. I've jokingly said that "NCC has ruined me." What I mean by that is this: I've become so accustomed to the rhythm of life and ministry in Washington, DC that I can't imagine doing it anywhere else. I have stressful days. I have bad days. But I still love going to "work" everyday.
If "having fun while doing ministry" were illegal I'd be sentenced to life without parole! Or chinese water torture.

Well spoken. I totally agree with the need for pastoral loyalty. If we stand and preach that there must be loyalty in the pew when there is none in the pulpit, something is seriously wrong. I'm "ruined" by the church I pastor as well.
