Had our last game of the season.
With 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter the game was tied.
So we called a timeout and I drew up an inbounds play we'd never run. It was perfect. We stacked our players in a straight line near half court. The guy in front peeled around and ran to the basket. Everybody else went into the backcourt. We threw a baseball pass. The guy who peeled caught it on the run and had a wide-open layup. It was picture perfect.
It would have been a fairy tale ending to our season :)
But alas.
We missed the shot. And the next ten seconds will be rewound and replayed in my head during the entire off-season. They got the rebound, took the ball full-court, and made a shot with 3 seconds left.
Our kids cried. I was crying on the inside but I put on a brave face for the kids. It was a heartbreaking loss. It was like all the ghosts of basketball past came back to haunt us! It was honestly more painful than the losses I experienced as a player !
The good news is that the sun will set and the sun will rise.
We'll live to play another day :) We'll just have to wait till next season :)
