Theaterchurch.com Vidcast

First of all, welcome to our newest staff member, David Russell. David just came on board as our Digital Pastor. For those of you wondering what a Digital Pastor is, No, David is not a droid. He's human. Flesh and blood. One of the things David is doing is helping us take our theaterchurch.com podcast to the next level.

We'll make the transition to high definition at our coffeehouse services on March 11. That'll not only lay the foundation for more video messages in theater locations, but we're going to begin vidcasting (video podcast) and webcasting. We'll create an iTunes listing in a week or so. And we'll begin posting video messages on theaterchurch.com as well.

I honestly think churches will begin seeing their websites as their "TV program" or "TV channel" in a few years. We want to keep reaching more and more people "in person." We have a five-digit vision. But we also want to keep reaching more and more people "via video." Short films, vidcasts, sermon trailers and webcasts are a huge part of our e-vangelism and digital discipleship efforts.

Hi, Mark.

Thanks for your blog. I have a friend that attends your church, and I know your rep at Clark ProMedia which has been doing your hi-def re-imaging install. It's been cool to get a view of the progress through your blog.

I have a couple questions on this post:

1. What "pastoral" duties will Mr. Russell have as the Digital Pastor?
2. What is your "digital discipleship effort?"

Thanks!

David Wilcox

David,

I view blogging, podcasting, and webcasting as "digital discipleship" efforts. We even have blog groups that are part of our small group system. It's all about redeeming technology to serve God's purposes.

In terms of David's portfolio. His primary responsibility is oversight of web development, getting our video podcast and webcast off the ground, and miscellaneous IT stuff. He also plays a mean electric guitar :)

Hope that helps some.

Mark
