Chasing Lions

Bookmark and Share

Just sent off a revised opening chapter to my editors at Multnomah. Writing time is hard to come by these days, but I'm so stoked about this book. There is nothing like writing about something you're passionate about.

I feel like the first chapter is the toughest because you're setting the tone for the rest of the book. I'm already praying for the people who buy it and read it. I have this gut feeling that the book will strike a chord.

I'm debating the title right now. The working title is In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day. An alternative title is Chasing Lions. We're still working on a subtitle. I'd welcome comments on the title.

Chasing Lions sounds like a really good title. It's catchy and makes me want to know more.

I'd go with a shorter title just because people have short attention spans and thus take better to shorter titles.

I recommend "On a Beach Under a Palm Tree on a Sunny Day." I hate snow.

If I saw a book with the title, "In a pit with a lion on a snowy day", I would immediately pick that book up off the shelf to see what it was about, and would possibly buy it just because of the title. It inspires curiousity. In fact, I have no idea what your book is about, but I really want to read it now that I've seen that title. Chasing lions is cute but forgettable. When can we expect to see the book published?

i really like 'in a pit with a lion on a snowy day' - i, too, would probably buy the book just on that title. very interesting!

plus, 'chasing lions' sounds a bit like 'chasing daylight', Erwin McManus' re-released book & recent sermon series.

If title length is a concern and the crux of the book is how God uses out past to prepare us for the future, it seems like (even though I absolutely LOVE the original title) that "In a Pit with a Lion" does the book just as much justice as the original title. I know that you are praying for readers, but its important to no forget that so many of your future readers are praying for you throughout this process. Isn't Anticipation one of God's greatest gifts?!?!

I really like the original. Very catchy and would definately make me want to take a second look. Chasing Lions - true that it is forgettable. Second choice would be In a pit with a lion. That again is more captivating and interesting on a shelf.

You get as many opinions as you do readers. First penny: what's the book about? It seems that being in a pit with a lion on a snowy day would be an undesirable disposition. Chasing a lion, however, sounds like a courageous journey.

Second penny: even if it has a long title, everyone will refer to it by a shortened name. For example, Darwin's book is titled: "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life" but everybody just calls it "Origin of Species."

Now that I've added my two cents I'll pass the collection plate to the next reader.
