Endorsements

I got an email yesterday from Multnomah telling me that it's time to line up endorsements for my book. So far everyone on our staff has agreed to endorse the book :)

We also shot a short intro to the book yesterday. Since I'm a first-time author without a track record we're really trying to go the extra mile platforming the book. I'm really enjoying every step of the publishing process. And I'm grateful for a great team to work with.

You might want to check some competition that's moving into the neighborhood.

With all due respect, another church in DC is not our competition.

I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but we need as many Christ-centered, Bible-teaching, Spirit-filled churches in DC as we can get :)

Churches aren't competing with churches. We have different roles, but we're on the same team! That's what a kingdom mindset is all about.

We've helped plant other churches in DC and we'll keep launching new locations throughout the city.

I've read that only 20% of DCers are churched. That is half the national average.

So praise God for another church launching in the nation's capital :)

Look forward to connecting.

Blessings,

Mark

We would have to work out some of the details, but I may be able to do one for you. Just let me know :)

Thanks Kyle but I don't want to sell too many books :)

Actually, you are our part-time PR guy so if the news gets ahold of it we'll let you be the spokesperson :)

I was being slightly comical.

That said, I think most churches in America are more consumed with themselves than with helping the lost and the poor.

And in this instance, we have a church in Seattle wanting to plant a church in DC, when there are already plenty of wonderful churches already in DC.

This is an absolute waste of resources. This DC church has more to do with pumping up the egos of these pastors than with anything else. (I know because I used to attend this church in Seattle).

I obviously don't expect you to get into a fight with another church, but there is a reason 20% of DC is unchurched. And it's not because of a lack of churches. It is a lack of quality churches. The American Evangelical Church has become superficial and arrogant.

Lastly, let me say, I believe in Christ and I believe in the Cross. And I believe Christ's message was one of compassion and grace. And this message is not being spread.

But whatever. I'm sure you make great coffee.

Actually. they do make great coffee. I happen to frequent the coffeehouse quite often since I'm addicted to the stuff. It's also great that a portion of the profits from each cup of coffee goes to helping the same lost and poor that your speaking about, and it's all fair trade, so NCC is helping farmers in other countries also.

Thanks for the follow-up catalyst. A simple comment or blog post can often be misread or taken out of context.

I certainly agree with you that the problem in America isn't the "lack of churches" but the lack of quality churches :)

Mark

I agree. Mark does make good coffee. I frequently stop by on my way to work. As my friends says, "It's coffee with a cause."

Let me just say though, having attended both the City Church and the National Theater Church, they both attract the samme demographic. And it's not the 80% unchurched in DC.

The City Church doesn't attract the unsaved or the unchurched. They attract those who already go to church. It's called Sheep Stealing.

...just saying...

I'm confused...isn't this your second book? Didn't you write the ID book too??

Catalyst- not to prolong the topic, but we survey our congregation every year. Over 50% come from unchurched or dechurched backgrounds. That means that they were never in church or at some point stopped going to church before NCC.

Also, our In Service Ministry and Crew teams are pounding the streets every week feeding the homeless, painting single moms' homes, etc.

I am responsible for discipleship at NCC, so this stuff is always on my radar screen. Our goal is absolutely not to steal sheep. I tell our leaders that our goal is to turn atheists into missionaries.

I don't know anything about the City Church, but I praise God for every church that is doing life-giving ministry in DC.

In case this was a request for endorsers, I'm willing to help out -- I'm no-one special in the world's eyes, but as a Christian, I'm an uniquely special.

If you'd like me to write an endorsement, let me know to whom and for how much I should send a cheque, and I'll read it and get back to you with the endorsement!

Cheers,

-kb
