First Communion

Bookmark and Share

Parker celebrated communion for the first time this weekend. I really wanted to mark this milestone in his life. He's keeping the communion bag as an Ebenezer. I also got him a Neos shirt to remember this series. And we went out for a special dinner to celebrate.

We're so intentional about remembering dates like birthdays and anniversaries. I think we need to be as intentional about remembering special dates in our spiritual journey.

One of my greatest desires is for my kids to internalize the faith. I don't just want them to believe because I believe. I want them to believe because they believe.

Congratulations! That's so fantastic.

I completely agree that it's important for children to internalize faith. Otherwise, that's how you get to be dechurched.

My 4 year old has taken communion twice. Our chuch does it the first Sunday of each month. But my wife and I kept her from it for a while because we weren't sure she'd fully understand. But then, who does fully understand.

But I wanted to ask what made this past weekend be "the time" for Parker? How did you and your wife decide? My daughter will tell you the Sunday School answer of what Communion means. And I think there is some child like faith in there as well. But sometimes I've wondered if it was too soon...

Oswald Chambers said, "Let God be as original with others as he was with you."

I think it's a unique timeline for everyone :)

It's like fishing. You don't want to try to set the hook too early or too late :)

PM, One of our Young Life kids from NE has been coming to NCC for a little while now with Chris, and he took communion for the first time on Sunday too! We're all excited for him, and I'm just so thankful to be part of a church that he and other teenagers from the city can come and feel comfortable and really learn about the Lord!

I've always loved communion at NCC, and I'm thankful, too, for the atmosphere you guys create around it - I think it'd be tough to miss the real meaning of what we're celebrating, and that's awesome to me.
