God @ the Box Office
We're getting ready to kick off our annual God @ the Box Office series.
I honestly think that most churches get B's in biblical exegesis and D's in cultural exegesis. We need to get A's in both/and. The Old Testament talks about the tribe of Isaachar who "understood the times." If we're going to "understand the times" then we've got to be dialed into movies and music. That is why we do God @ the Box Office and God @ the Billboard.
During our God at the Box Office series we talk about spiritual themes in popular movies. We'll show some clips and then juxtapose them with Scripture. It is typically the series where NCCers invite the most friends. We also found that some of our hardest hitting messages are in these two series because movies and music tend to touch on raw issues.

Sounds like a great series.
Most churches avoid being culturally relevant because when they try, they're unsuccessful. I'm all for using culture, as long as it's done in a non-cheese-filled way. Looks like you've done a good job so far with your promotional materials. Keep us updated on the series!
I just noticed that there was a "Todd" on the CMS site who posted on your article, and I just want to let you know that's not me.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
This is a great series! Last year's clip of you in the Incredibles costume was HILARIOUS.
I shared that with so many friends.
You should put that up again!
My all time favorite message at NCC was from the Box Office seried when you did Seasbiscuit a couple of years ago.
I hope you are turning some into video podcast. I would love to see these.
I am a Todd, not sure if I am the Todd that Todd was talking about, but that is not bad if I am or if I am not. I am here in Fairfax, VA as a children's pastor at JCC.
You should get your hands on Rob Wegner's message from "Pop Spirituality" talking about movies. I bet if you pull some strings with Tony Morgan, you could get a dvd.
Just an idea....
man i love that you guys aren't afraid of connecting with culture. its awesome. keep doing what your doing... i'm learning a lot just from observing you guys via this blog, so thanks!
