Weekend Reflections

We kicked off our Neos series this weekend. I'm always energized when we start a new series. I feel like today's message was about giving people a new way to think about what Christ wants to do with our lives. He's in the renovation business.

I have to admit. Day Lights Saving Sunday is a rough one for pastors. Everybody is minus an hour of sleep. People forget to change their clocks. And you feel a little off kilter.

We threw a couple of new twists into the mix this week.

We went with a moving graphic background. The lines and circles in the Neos graphic move vertically and horizontally.

And I showed a news clip during my message. I don't do that very often, but I was talking about neoteny--the retention of youthful qualities into adulthood. I couldn't help but show the story about Arthur Winston who turned 100 last week and just retired after 75 years with the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority. Now that he's retired, he said he's going to help old people :)

All in all, a great weekend. I really believe that God is going to do lots of renovation in lots of lives during this series.

I'm definitely for the use of the news in church ... and the use of the church in the news. It's a give-and-take thing.

Pastor Mark,
Hi! I hope this e-mail finds things with your family and NCC going very well. My name is Ashley Rubenstein and I attended NCC while I served as a Congressional Page in 2003-04 (I was one in the group of Pages who you and Lora had over for dinner near the end of our year in DC). I am now finishing up my freshman year at Taylor University in Upland, IN. I have continued to read your blog and your evotionals the past two years and what blessing they are to me! I am so excited about the opening of Ebeneezers and cannot wait to get back to DC to visit! A Page friend and I are planning on living and working in DC this summer and that is the reason for this comment. I was curious to see if you knew of any job opportunities I could apply for, whether at Ebeneezers or if you knew of someone in the NCC congregation that might have a need for a college student this summer. I would appreciate any information you can provide. I can be reached at ashley_rubenstein@taylor.edu or on my dorm phone (765) 998-4116. Thank you so much and God Bless!
Ashley
(sorry I sent this on your blog.. i couldn't find your email address!)

Ashley,

Great to hear from you! Thrilled you'll be in DC! Definitely contact our coffeehouse manager. She is pretty swamped getting things up and running right now, but her email is Christina@theaterchurch.com.

Look forward to welcoming you back to NCC!

Pastor Mark
