Pray and Play

I'm checking out of the blogosphere for a couple days.

Every year we do two staff retreats. One is our strategic planning retreat in the fall. The other is our play and pray retreat where we, you guessed it, play and pray! We're headed out as a team to do a little praying and a little playing!

I've said it a hundred times but it's worth saying again: how much you enjoy ministry depends on who you're doing ministry with. I'm grateful for a team that makes ministry a blast :)

Peace out.

Mark,

sometimes you do not even know the people you are doing ministry with. I've read your "ID" book, now my team leader has ordered it. I have found myself quoting you and quoting you quoting people I had not heard of before at my Life group's Bible study, at a strategy meeting, during a conversation with a friend. I read chunks of it outloud to my husband during an 8 hour drive to the in-laws.

Is it because you managed to write about every issue that would trouble or puzzle a human being? Or is it because your view of identity in relation with Eternal Maker is a better researched and formulated version of mine? I'd like to think it is the latter. Besides, you write (or speak)on my frequincy. At Buzz, I plugged right in and tracked non-stop.

May I just let you know that this first edition of the book has quite a few typos and grammatical mishaps that spellcheck did not catch. This must be no news to you by now.

I've done enough ministry in my brief life with people that drove me bonkers to have a deep sense of gratitude to be with the people I am now.

I agree 100% with you, in other words. Even prayer meetings are better when you understand what and why people are praying the somewhat odd things that sometimes pop out of their mouths.

Elena,

Thanks for the encouraging words.

Can you believe that I didn't even have anybody proofread ID :) I was so determined to just get a book in print.

It's sort of like a game when I give people the book. I tell them there are typos and they get to find them :)

That whole self-publishing experience really helps me appreciate the editors I'm working with at Multnomah. It's a whole different game :)

Blessings,

Mark
