Publishing Stats
I just read a review my friend, Earl Creps, did on my forthcoming book, In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day. Earl's book, Off-Road Disciplines, releases right before mine. I got my hands on an advance copy and I love it. Must-read.
Earl cited a sobering stat for authors--U.S. book publishers released 172,000 new books, and new editions of previously published works, in 2005. That's a little initimidating :) But it reminds me of a simple truth--if this book is going to find a niche it has to be a God thing.
All I can do is write like it depends on me and pray like it depends on God. I feel like I've done both of those things.
Anybody have a connection to Oprah's bookclub :)

Hi enjoy reading your stuff.I live in South Africa and would like to know if you coul give me few guidelines about writing your first book. Where do i start? With what o i start? I have this idea but don't know where to go from here. Thx

I've got an article coming out in the next issue of Ministry Today on that topic. I'll post a link when it comes out in september.
My short advice is:
1) Pray until you have a God idea
2) Start writing--2-3 chapters
3) Meet with other authors
4) Search for an agent
5) Write articles for magazines
6) Keep praying

yes... i have a connection to oprah's book club. oprah is starting a channel on xm next month and we have studios up in chicago at harpo.
