10 College Commandments
I spoke at George Washington University tonight. It's like a personal pilgrimage when I speak there. Half of our core group of twenty-five people back in 1996 were GW students.
I gotta say: I love speaking to students.
As promised, here are the ten college commandments.
Some of them are more like suggestions :) And no, I didn't climb Mount Sinai and descend with these on stone tablets. These are just lessons learned.
#1 Don't base your self-esteem on your GPA
#2 Take some offbeat classes
#3 Study abroad or go on a mission trip!
#4 Pick the tough internship not the easy internship
#5 Good friends are more important than good grades
#6 Don't put God on hold during college
#7 Don't pursue a degree. Pursue a passion.
#8 Make godly pre-decisions
#9 Enjoy the Journey
#10 Take calculated risks

I wish you had come down to William and Mary when I was in college.
The 'pre decision' thing is key. I could have avoided many mistakes with that one.
Yep... I recently read a book called 'In The Meantime' by Rob Brendle, and he talks quite extensively in one of the chapters about making predecisions, relating it back to David making the same kind of decisions (although slightly later in his life). Really made an impact on me.
Speaking of predecisions, we just got back from "the silver ring thing" and watched 600 high school kids commit to purity (before college)...it was awesome! Yeah, some will break their covenants, but it sure creates a higher fence to have to climb over.

not trying to argue with you cynthia, but don't you think by simply saying that some will break, is a reason they may break it? If you don't expect them to be able to do it, or have the faith that they will...then, no they won't...we need to expect them to be able to do it...not say that they will break their covenants...hold the expectation, you'd be surprised what some will do...
