Don't Throw My Book At Me

Bookmark and Share

The first "book testimonies" are starting to come in.

Nothing is more gratifying to an author than knowing something you wrote really impacted someone. It's way too cool. I think the newness of writing helps me see it differently than a seasoned author. Maybe it's just that I don't take any of this for granted.

I had a meeting with someone today and I gave them a copy of my book. It was so cool because I didn't have time to meet and talk for several hours but I really felt like God would use the book to speak into their life situation. My book is one way I can have an extended conversation with anyone and everyone. The same thing happened on the plane ride back from catalyst. I gave a book to my seat mate. It's such an easy way of sharing my faith.

On to the testimonies...

Someone emailed me today and said they got to chapter four and literally threw the book down because they didn't like what I was writing. Then they re-read it and realized that God was using the book to really confront some issues in their life. As far as I know, that's the first documented incident of someone throwing my book! Feel free to throw my book. Just don't throw it at me :)

I got another email from someone in the publishing world that was way too encouraging. They said their book is underlined like crazy. I love that because I have a book rule that I don't know if I've ever shared. I never read a book if I don't have a pen to underline with. Never. It's a waste of my time. I underline books like nobody's business! Then this reader shared something pretty cool:

I’ve recently prayed that God would double my spiritual impact in the next ten years from the last ten. Now I’m wondering if I should go all the way and ask for four or ten times instead.

Stories like that keep you writing!

A ton of prayer went into this book and I honestly believe that every life touched by In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day is an answer to prayer. Readers don't know it when they pick up the book, but they have been prayed over.

I just have to say that the statement of knowing that something you've written has impacted someone is something that I can't take for granted either. Right now, the only outlet I really have is my blog, but when I get people telling me that something I wrote has touched them, it only confirms this ministry God has given me. I wish I knew how to go about getting articles published. I have no idea how to go about broadening my net.

God bless, Pastor Mark!
