Battle of the Sexes

We kick off a new series this weekend titled Battle of the Sexes: How Both Sexes Can Win. There is are so many misconceptions about what it means to be a man and what it means to be a woman. Some of them are promulgated by the culture. Some of them by the church. We're hoping to cut through the confusion and celebrate the simple fact that God created two genders.
So God created man in his own image,
In the image of God he created him;
Male and female He created them.
Genesis 1:27
In too many instances, the church is answering questions no one is asking. Or we're talking about things no one is thinking about. I think this is one of those where we live series that will touch a nerve ending.
I know so many guys who want to be a better father or better husband. They want to be a man of God. But they aren't sure what that looks like. And the same goes for women.
I'm hoping this series gives us a biblical framework for masculinity and femininity. And I'm hoping it helps us cross the gender divide. The end goal is a better understanding of ourselves as men and women and a greater appreciation for the opposite sex.

Sounds like a great series on a topic that's very important, yet rarely discussed in detail.
I can't count how many times I've heard people talk about wanting to be a man or woman of God...but I don't know if any of us had a really clear idea of what that meant.
That's great...we've been working up to teaching on the same topic, but haven't gotten up enough guts, or our act together enough personally, to tackle it yet! Will the series be available on podcast?
Awesome ideas... I really appreciate pastors/churches/Christians in general who are bold enough to say 'hey, we need to talk about this!' We need to be taught, we need to know what God thinks... thanks for pushing the boundaries creatively!
funny quote I came across...
"Nobody will ever win the battle of the sexes. There’s too much fraternizing with the enemy." ~Henry Kissinger
Just finished Donald Miller's book "To Own a Dragon". (Even though the book was written primarily for men, I enjoyed it.) It has a great section about what it takes to be a "real man". It's a suprise answer...I highly recommend this book.
Thanks PM. Enjoyed the sermon. In fact, I blogged about it.
I guess you can look back to the fall of man to pinpoint the time when gender distinctions became apparent. God created the world in which men and women were supposed to coexist and rule and subdue the world in absolute unity. Therefore, due to the inherent sin nature that man was born with, there should be no surprise that men and women are more like sparring partners and are far removed from being civilized couples that were put forth on the earth to populate it.
I agree that this topic does not generate any airplay within the various media outlets, and I think it is do in part to our culture becoming consumed with the sexual revolution and liberating women; hence to stand by and advocate developing healthy relationships amongst men and women is absolutely nonsense and it doesn’t do much to generate ratings.
Genesis? Really do you believe in that absurd book? Oh, your God!!!
Yup :) Everybody has to "believe" in some sort of origin of the earth. I just think an intelligent designer makes more sense than random chance. Honestly, takes less faith. I think the evidence points toward a Creator. And everybody has to have a genesis whether you believe in Genesis or not.
My two cents,
Mark
