churchplanters.com

The churchplanters.com conference kicks off today. I'm not there. Wish I was. My friends, Perry Noble and Dave Ferguson, are speaking along with church planting guru, Ed Stetzer.
Just accepted an invitation to speak at the churchplanters.com conference in '08. Already excited about it. Love every opportunity I have to interface with church planters. I think church planters are kingdom heroes. Takes a unique personality to plant a church--you have to be a little crazy! A little lion chaser in you.

Honest question. But it seems that church plants that are successful are so because of the great leadership of their pastors and staff. But it seems that there are more and more church planting and other conferences.
How do you juggle the responsibilities of your local church (and it's multiple sites) with speaking or just attending different conferences? How do you do it so that you are not absent too much from your own congregation(s) and inhibit their health/growth?
And all of that is outside of family/personal time of course.
Blake,
Good question. Really wrestle with it.
I'm getting more and more invitations to speak at conferences. And I definitely feel like it is part of my calling. But I've made a decision to limit my speaking engagements to 30 nights in 2007. That keeps my family and NCC the priority. I turn down more invitations than I accept which is really difficult for me. They all seem like great opportunities :) So I try to guage factors--is it a core passion? how long will I have to be away from my family? does it fit the rhythm of life and ministry?
Not easy juggling family, ministry, writing, and speaking. Setting some well-defined boundaries is the key!

Makes good sense. And part of a "successful" church is a great leadership team, not just a great leader. So you have the opportunity to share some responsibilities while you take time to go speak/attend a conference or coach a basketball game.
saw your blog it looks great have a blessed day ;)
