The Guts of Leadership

As you know, I'm a huge catalyst fan. Excited about doing a lab at Catalyst 07. And just wrote an article for catalyst monthly. Some great articles this month!

A few weeks ago I posted on a growing conviction that the church needs more guts. Gutsy is a good description of Jesus--both in terms of taking risks and the depth of his convictions. Making a whip and throwing down in the Temple took guts!

One of the dangers we face in leadership is this: at some point in our leadership journey we stop playing offense and start playing defense. We stop doing ministry out of imagination and start doing ministry out of memory. We stop creating the future and start repeating the past...

Dear, thank you for your comments on the guts of leadership. I am a pastor and I believe when we begin taking bold steps for God, we will begin to take new territories for him! For years I was held back by the fear of the challenges of extending the boarders of our ministry because we are not a mega church (we were about 800 adults). Last year, I decided to try plant some new campuses and challenge my assistants to go handle such. Now we planted 5 churches and 3 campus fellowships. The result, our hq is over 1000 adults now. some of the locations are above 100 members now. Maybe its God's timing or maybe if I acted in faith 4 yrs ago, I could have done more for God. I pray to get more gutsy and do more for God! pastor George

I just picked up "Catalyst: The Culture Issue" this weekend and it's already changing my attitudes about the ways church infiltrates the culture. In fact, I think my dad (a minister) and I are going to read through it together! Thanks for the recommendation!
