Father/Son Run
Parker and I went jogging together for the first time last night. I thought he'd have a tough time keeping up. Ah, the delusions of man! Are you kidding me? He was jogging and talking in a normal voice. I was jogging and talking and huffing and puffing. But I can still take him in a sprint :)
My parenting is really in transition right now as our kids get older. I'm really trying to find challenges that we can take on & things we can do together. Builds a great bond--one-on-one time is priceless! I have a feeling we'll do lots of snowboarding in the years to come after our one outing this year. And you'll probably see me huffing & puffing all over Capitol Hill trying to keep up with my son :)

I don't know how old your son is, but you are on the right track. So many parents think that when they get to the teenage years, it's time to relax, breathe and do their own thing.
My girls are 15 and 18 and I'm enjoying them so much now — real conversations that don't revolve around the potty or some cartoon character.
After sending my oldest to college last fall, I realize just how short our time is — and how precious those moments are. I don't want to miss even one.
So keep on running and hats off to you for taking the time with your son — you will be richly rewarded — and you'll be in incredible shape!
On a good day I can still beat my daughters in a sprint. It won't last for long though, but I am milking it. I stut around like a 100 meter sprinter at the Olympics before and after. It is a great laugh for us all.
One thing I am conscious of is 5 year blocks with our kids. I look 5 years back and see how small they were. Then I look 5 years forward and imagine how big and grown up they will be. It makes me want to give them and big hug and go and do something special with them right now.
I am sure kids spell love as t-i-m-e :-)
Mark,
Greetings from Ohio!
I am a fellow pastor (Evangel A/G - Wooster) and with some of our guys attended a men's event last night at a church in a neighboring community. The speaker introduced his topic "Are You a Scardey Cat or a Lion?" by referring to your book (which I read and enjoyed back in November). He also shared a quote from the book as something of a launching pad for his message.
His challenge was strong and there was a tremendous response to the altar call. Some went forward to confess that there were areas in their lives they needed to get right, some went forward because they wanted to commit to getting out of their comfort zones and boldy serve the Lord...I think there were those who made first time decisions for Christ, too.
I just thought you'd like to know. Your ministry is touching people you may not be aware of...including me and fellas in our church!
Thanks so much!
God bless,
Mark Ryder
