Writing is Hard

I think 10% of writing is inspiration. The other 90% is perspiration. I'm definitely sweating my next book!

One of the reasons I blog is to remember the struggle. About a year ago I blogged about the decision to totally rewrite In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day. It was such a tough decision, but it totally transformed the book. I'm grateful for the struggle. In fact, the greater the struggle the more you tend to believe in something.

I'm really struggling with the title and organizing metaphor for this next book. Part of the challenge is that I'm trying to write a book in a totally different genre for a totally different audience. My next book is for leaders--primarily pastors. I want to share the lessons I've learned during ten trips around the leadership block. Part of the challenge is that I feel like I've got two or three leadership books I want to write. I'm just trying to figure out my niche.

Definitely learning some lessons with book #2 that will really help with book #3.

I'd really covet your prayers on this one!

Mark,

Glad to hear another book is on the way. I just finished 'In A Pit..." and it was exactly what I needed right now. Thanks for your ministry that stretches further than the city limits of DC.

My wife encourages me to chase my lion of writing a book and reading your book was encouragement to continue taking steps in that direction.

Thanks so much for your work and I'll do my best to be faithful in praying for your current project.

Mark,
"Chasing the Lion" has been exactly what God wanted me to read. It has been awesome for me as I begin to work with a group of people to start a new church. I AM PUMPED!

Since I have been reading it, I have told 4 people about it, they have bought it, and it continues to bless, challenge and encourage.

We are all praying for you and your new project.

Yes, I think you do have (at least) 3 books about leadership in you; trilogies are the new format for book series. Just don't call it "A New Kind of Pastor" :)

I like the title of "Chasing the Lion" it makes you wonder what the book is all about. I think you should stay in that vein. I think you should name it something 1. that makes people remember your book 2. makes them curious about the content. The sad reality is that we all judge a book by it's cover. But please do us all a favor do not call it something like 10 indisputable characteristics of block circlers.

I'm praying for you! I look forward to seeing what God does with your next book. In the Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day has made a big impact on me. God has gifted you with being able to express things in a way that connects to your readers.
