Eastern Market

One of our favorite Capitol Hill hangouts is Eastern Market. My all-time favorite breakfast place is the little joint in the main hall--amazing pancakes and french toast. We've also rented part of the market for a few Catacombs events.

Just found out there was a three-alarm fire last night. Sounds like 2/3rds of the place is virtually destroyed. How sad. And totally surreal. We drove through the market last night on our way to the Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins at 8th and Pennsylvania.

Here's a news report.

I was saddened by this news this morning. Talk about a community cross-section! Eastern Market is one of the reasons I love living in DC.

I too, had just went by there Sunday evening on my way to Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins. It still hasn't fully sunk in. The Market is a Saturday morning tradition for me. I always stop by in the middle of a long leisurely walk and get my turkey chops and organic chicken, some fruits and veggies, and I always stop by to get some cheese from Jack. My heart was very heavy when I got the news. My prayers are with all of those who work @ the market who are filled with more questions than answers right now.

A sad day in DC. I hope they get things restored soon. In the meantime, I will miss the cheese shop and special raviolis the most. I hope they still do the outdoor stuff as much as they can and restore things soon. I feel like Capitol Hill has a hole in it now.
