weekly schedule
I've gotten a few questions about my weekly schedule lately. Thought it'd be worth posting.
Monday is what I call a focus day. I try not to schedule appointments on Monday. It allows me to decompress from Sunday and gear up for the coming week. Most of our staff is off on Mondays so it's pretty quiet around the office. It is primarily a reading and writing day. And I start gearing up for our Big Idea Meeting on Tuesday. That is when our creative team meets to brainstorm upcoming series and put together our weekend run sheets. It is our weekly touch point as a team. We used to do a weekly Team Meeting on Tuesday as well, but I felt like it was counter-productive so we moved to a monthly all-team meeting. Tuesday tends to be a project day--lots of odds and ends.
During the school year, Wednesday is my day off because my kids have a half-day of school. I take Monday off during the summer months.
Thursday is a meeting day. I try to schedule as many meetings as I possibly can on Thursdays. Fridays are another focus day. I'll have occasional meetings, but I try to wrap up weekly projects and gear up for my weekend message. Saturdays are a study day.
I get into the office between 6 & 7 AM most days. I'm not really a morning person by nature, but I've really disciplined myself to get an early start because my mind is clear. I get more done by 10 AM than I do the rest of the day! I try to do my writing, studying, and praying in the AM hours.
I try to wrap up my work day and get out of the office around 5:30 PM. The nice thing is that my commute is four blocks! For what it's worth, I try to limit my evening church commmitments to one night a week.

Currently, I am serving as Sr.Pastor of a traditional church in transition and I would be interested in knowing what kinds of things U discuss in your "big idea" meetings. That sounds like something we need to began to do.

Mark,
The lowdown on your Big Idea meetings would be good. I've read the book but it would be great to hear your version.
Also where did you get that pulpit and cool thing the flat screen TV is hung on?
Thanks
Hey Chuck,
We got the pulpit at little mountain productions. I think you can google them and find them online.
I'll definitely post some Big Idea thoughts. And we may tag-team with Community Christian to do a Big Idea conference...I'll definitely post on it.
Blessings,
Mark
