Rome Reflections
Where do I start?
We spent 4 days in Rome. Loved everything from the language to the historical sites to the sidewalk cafes to the gelato. My favorite food was the pizza margherita. Favorite gelato was pistaccio. And you gotta love cappucino with nutella!
We visited all the "must-see" places like the Colosseum, the Forum, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basillica. And they were incredible! But I loved some of the "off-the-beaten-path" places like Mamertine prison where Peter was imprisoned before his upside-down crucifixion. And I loved some of the subtleties of the places we visited. For example, Michelangelo's depiction of original sin. It shows Adam and Eve right before and right after eating the forbidden fruit and the artist aged them about ten years. Great artistic impression of the effect of sin! It ages us.
Enough words. Here are a few pictures.

I think Rome is so awesome. I love the ice cream. I went there on a missions trip in 1990 during the World Cup. The city shuts down when Italy takes the field. Glad you got the opportunity for some down time and wife time. You earned it. Hurry up with your next book, we are waiting with Lion baited breath...A little Lion chasing humor. Welcome back
Breathtaking pics...I've never had an overwhelming desire to travel, but these pics and your stories definitely piqued an interest...maybe someday...
Hey Mark,
Was in Rome & Umbria last summer on our way back to Cairo, Egypt from the UK. Loved the city and I totally agree with you about the lost art of walking around. Having said that, we took the open top bus tour and really got a feel for the character of the whole city. Loved it so much we're going back in August.
BTW, just starting chasing lions with my men's group here in Egypt. They were blown away just by the first chapter :-)
Great pics! Never been, but hope to! I'm coming to BUZZ this year - can't wait!
I was backpacking with my wife and we were checking out that fountian. It started raining and we ducked into a tie shop across the street. The owner said to stay there we needed to buy a tie.... That is my favorite tie to this day. I love Rome.
