Hero

We're kicking off a new series after Chapter Two titled Hero.

We're going to look at some of the unsung heroes of Scripture. Behind every David there is a friend named Jonathan; behind every Esther there is an uncle named Mordecai; behind every Jacob there is a brother named Esau; and behind every Paul there is a sidekick named Barnabas.

So many biblical hereos play second fiddle. They are the harmony behind the melody. And while most of us don't sit in the first chair, we're called to play our part.

Here's the series brand we're working on.

Hi Mark:

How are you? You may not remember me, but I met a few years ago at National Community Church. I was referred to you by my friend Chris London, who met you a few weeks ago, as well Eric Bryant at Mosaic Church. I am in the process of starting a brand new church in Northwest Washington DC called The Bridge. Our goal is to be a multi-ethnic community that impacts Greater Washington by being a people of faith, hope, and love. We have already began some outreach initiatives in the community, including a monthly poetry, art, and music event called Expression that began in May. I would love to talk with you about The Bridge and what God is doing through you and NCC. Please let me know when would be the best way to contact you. I can be reached at (240) 505-6637 and thebridgedc@gmail.com.

Sincerely,
Jumaine Jones
Lead Pastor, The Bridge

Mark,
That poster looks awesome. Mind if I ask who does your graphics and art like that? I'd like to get some tips or what not.

You can email me at stanley.chacko@gmail.com if you'd like.

Stan,

Props to Jeremey Sexton, the newest member of our media team. Just drafted him out of Valley Forge Christian College.

We do about 95% of our branding in house at this point. But I can certainly recommend some great folks to outsoure projects to.

A couple that come to mind immediately are Aspire One and Change Design. You can google them or contact us for info.

This is awesome. We just began a new series entitled "Heroes" last Sunday. On Thursday, I was working on the message for June 10 about sidekicks. I wrote down quite a few sidekicks from scripture and pop culture.

Here's what I had so far:
Batman – Robin
The Tick – Arthur (moth)
Quick Draw McGraw – Baba Looey
Andy Taylor – Barney Fife
Yogi Bear – Boo Boo
Hiro Nakamura - Ando Masahashi
Maverick – Goose
Shrek - Donkey
The Brain – Pinky
Pastor AbbyeTech Girl (alter ego Carolyn Mejia)
Johnny Carson – Ed McMahon
Han Solo – Chewbacca
Paul – Barnabas
Esther – Mordecai (uncle)
David – Jonathan
Jeremiah - Baruch
Moses - Joshua
Elijah - Elisha
Paul - Barnabas
Deborah - Barak
Shadrach - Meshach – Abednego - Shadrach (the circle of sidekicks)

It's hard to pare down with so many awesome heroes to choose from. It's cool to see a church we look up to doing a similar series. You guys are amazing.

Bryan,

Thanks for the ideas! Great list of sidekicks.

For what it's worth, a little Mark Batterson trivia. My favorite sidekick on that list is Barney Fife. I've seen every episode of Andy Griffeth.

I probably wouldn't admit to that on a post, but admiting to it on a comment is ok :)

I have bugged our Pastor of Discipleship (you hear me Heather?) about writing a book on being a godly FOLLOWER. There are so many books on leadership, we need some examples of God-seeking followers. One could draw from the many Biblical examples of those who are willing to sacrifice themselves to support the vision God has given to another.

The list of sidekicks brought that to my mind once again. :) A series on Heroes is great. Maybe next a series on sidekicks?
