Sprint Triathlon

I'm in the process of re-evaluating and re-establishing my Life Goal list this summer. I set a bunch of goals years ago, but I'm updating the list and trying to come up with 100 lions to chase. I am the kind of person that needs goals or I'm no good! I need something to work for, train for, live for.

One of my life goals is completing a triathlon. So I started training this week. If I stay healthy, I'm going to try to do a sprint triathlon in September. The biking and running parts seem relatively easy. But the 1/2 mile swim is what scared me.

I honestly didn't know if I could swim that far. I was on the swim team for one day in Junior High! I've never had to swim more than two laps in the pool, but I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it so I tried it yesterday. Somehow I managed to swim my first half-mile. I'm sure the ocean will be a much tougher environment, but I love a challenge. One of the greatest feelings in the world is doing something you honestly didn't think you could do.

Mark,
It's great to read this post. I am a young associate pastor in CA and a year ago I found myself getting sucked into the day to day. Too many worries and too few dreams. I decided to change that, for the sake of my family and myself. One of my first goals was to run a 10k (btw I hadn't run since high school and even that was questionable). In march I did my first 10k and came in 3rd! This summer I'm going to tackle my first sprint triathlon. Life is so much better when we chase it rather than waiting for it to catch us. Thanks for reminding me of this this morning!

PM - rock on! Triathlons are so much fun. It's pretty exhilirating to accomplish three events at once. And you don't get bored with all the training 'cause you're always switching it up. Keep up posted!
