Triathlon Training

I started my triathlon training yesterday. I promise not to bore you with the training details, but some of my blogs are like mileposts. This was sort of day one. I did a half-mile swim, seven mile bike, and three mile run. I know I can finish a sprint triathlon. The question is how long it will take me! Got a long ways to go.

Took Parker along for the run last night. The kid is a jack rabbit. I'm huffing and puffing and he's talking up a storm!

Gotta love running in DC. Most of my routes take me by the Capitol. So last night we ran right by the freshman senator from Virginia, Jim Webb. And Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Senator from Texas, gave us a big smile as we ran by. It was like a running class in politics. I kept telling Parker who these different people were!

Mark, Ken Witcher's wife, Gina, here...I am a competivie runner by nature and have been competing since I was 13. I ran competitively on the track in college and nationally after college. I took a few years off to have kids, and just started running and competing again after 10 years and have my sights set on a marathon. I know what it takes to get in shape for a triathalon and I am very impressed you are taking on this challenge. I will enjoy hearing how you progress. I could never be bored with someone's training schedule. :-) I also coached. Lots of luck!!

I don't run unless I'm being chased. But, I admire the work ethic. Gotta love that. Good luck with the triathalon!

Sounds like a lot nicer place to jog than I have. Cornfields on the left, a few trees on the right. I'm normally with Jeff on the running thing, but I'm trying to get back in shape. Tuesday was the first real exercise I've had in probably a year. I played some pick up basketball, and I still feel like I could die today. I can't wait to get through this stage of getting back in shape.

Isnt that the entire distance of the Dewey Beach sprint marathon? I think you're golden .. but dude, running bricks on the first day? Hard core. Im still rotating through the bike/run/swim thing (emphasis on the swim because I actually enjoy it).
I've got a great tri training book, btw, if you want to see it ...

I have several friends who are runners and I personally don't get it. BUT I really admire people who can do it! Good for you, I'm amazed you can make the time. May I use a quote from our daughter when she was still in high school and facing a mile run in PE class? "I'd eat a bug every day for the rest my life if I never had to run again!" Still cracks me up.
