Weekend Reflections
Another whirlwind weekend.
Along with our seven services we had connection cafes at Ebz and Union Station and our In Service ministry had a picnic for our homeless friends.
It was week 3 in our Chapter 2 series. This is the first time my "text" has been the title of a book of the Bible. It was the shortest Scripture reading ever: Acts. That's it. One Word. The title says it all. It's not titled ideas or reflections or thoughts. It is an action & adventure book. The big idea was pretty simple this week: Christianity is not a noun. It's a verb. An action verb. And we're all called to be actors. Not the Hollywood version. the Acts version.
I quoted Elvis and we actually played A Little Less Conversation on the way off. Elvis said it and sang it better than I can: a little less conversation, a little more action.
Had one little incident. We had to call security during our 10:15 @ Union. It's a fine line, but we won't allow one person to compromise the experience of others. And we had someone come who was intentionally trying to cause problems. He wouldn't leave when we asked him to. A few weeks ago, he caused a scene yelling and cursing. I always feel so torn inside. We really want to be gracious. And if someone has the right spirit we're 100% forgiving. But if someone is intentionally beligerent you can't comprise everyone else.
The highlight for me was challenging NCCers to give one day's pay. We handed out psuedo-checks that doubled as pledge cards. And we and asked people to become shareholders in our next launch. It was an IPO of sorts--an Initial Public Offering.
That's a wrap!

I just finished reading ACTS again myself. It really is so simple. Not simplistic but simple. I think we can tend to make it more complicated than it should be. Faith in Action. God = Go.
Have you seen Outreach.com's "Faith in Action. Be the Church" series?
