What I'm Reading

I get a ton of books in the mail from publishers. I'm not sure why. Might be because of my blog. Might be because I've written a book. To be perfectly honest, most of them don't do much for me. But I just got one that rang my bell.

One of the things we really wrestle with as pastors are those situations where we don't have the answers! Second Guessing God by Brian Jones navigates some of those issues in such an authentic way. Love Brian's writing voice. This is one of those books I'm going to strategically hand off to hurting people.

Check it out.

Yes, great book! I saw the title and knew I had to read it...I actually first felt called to church planting when on a trip with my college doing some surveying for Brian Jones' church...though I'm sure he wouldn't remember me, it made an impact.

Mark,
Got an wierd question. You are an avid reader. That is a good thing. But unless if your whole house is filled with books, how do you go about getting rid of books? I am going through mine right now, and it is tough, hate to do it. So how do you prevent excessive amount of books?

Dan,

Every once in a while I purge my library of books I know I won't need to reference. However, I probably have a few thousand books on my shelves that I want access to.

I usually offer them to our staff. Most of them typically disappear.

For those of you that are interested, we've been running a series of book reviews over at ZoneGathering.com (the blog for NCC's leaders). It's a mix of both old and new books, all focused on discipleship, leadership, etc.

You can check them out here:

I just had my first one published, too. Small world... big God. Quite humbling.
