100,000 invitations
In the next few weeks we'll invite approximately 100,000 Washingtonians to church.
86 % of NCCers visit NCC because someone invited them. So personal invitations are the most effective form of marketing. But we have a simple marketing mantra: we don't want anybody in the metro DC area to be able to deny our existence. Sometimes a direct mailer can get you on someone's radar so when they are looking for a church down the road they know where to turn.
Just thought I'd share the design we came up with.

Looks like a place I'd want to visit! ;)
Hey Mark, the piece is looking good. Just noticed one thing. Maybe there is a reason for it. But just was curious why it was predominately females on this piece. Not that I'm complaining being a single male, that might interest me if i were closer to attend. But was just curious.
Anyway love following your blog and have been reading "In a pit with a lion on a snow day" and am really challenged as well as enjoying it. Thanks for your thoughts and sharing what God lays on your heart.
Chris,
Good catch. No reason. The backside is more of a mix. We might revisit that however.

Hey Mark, I've been following your blog for a while here in Des Moines, IA so I was excited over the weekend when a local area church sent me one of their 11,000 invitations, inviting me to their "Chase the Lion" series. While I am already connected in a great church, I emailed the pastor and told him how excited I was to see the invitation and that I would join them in praying for the people on their mailing list.
quite lovely!
erik-that is a great idea. thanks for making me do something with those cards i get instead of glance them over and throw them away.
mark - dumb question, do you serve popcorn?
Pastor Mark,
What size are those? Are they business card size or postcard?
Just curious what works best for you.
I don't understand how 86% of people that attend where invited by someone translates into a mailer. I would throw it away. Please, explain its personal"ness".
You're right about a mailer letting people know you exist. They may not come the next week after receiving it, but they will visit your webpage, see what you're about, and remember.
I had noticed the same thing about the predominance of females on the piece. Other than that -- it's a great looking piece!
I like it! But, is this one "scratch & sniff"? - That was pretty cool!
Appreciate the feedback!!!
We're actually taking another look at it based on comments.
Carl--it's 8.5 by 5.5.
Julio--I'm a big believer in both/and. We want to use the mailer to get on people's reticular activating system. But the personal invite cards are our bread and butter.
Mark
there's a lot of girls on that invite. the one dude is probably happy ;)
