Every once in a while I like putting a conference on the radar. Very excited about speaking @ Awakennext April. Definitely worth checking out! Here's the lineup.
I realize the downside of posting stuff like that. It's a little awkward because it can come across as self-promoting. Same with the book. I don't want to post on it too much. You know what I mean? But I also believe in it. So I live with the tension of letting people know where I'm speaking and what I'm writing.
By nature, a blog is about my life. So I guess it could come across as self-promoting irregardless. And as soon as I'm totally sanctified and have eliminated all selfish ambition from my life I'll post on it, but don't hold your breath :)
I genuinely believe Awaken is going to be an amazing conference and worth attending, thus the post.
By the way, I couldn't help but laugh at "discreetly self-promoting" in light of the anonymous comment :) I guess that is discreetly insulting :)
No hard feelings whatsoever! Added a humorous side to it :)
Hi Mark I live in a country called New Zealand,a little island of the coast of Australia..LOL
I love you Blog it has helped me so much this year in my leadership and ministry.I love how you write so candid and honest You have so much to offer the Body of Christ,God bless and God speed with every opportunity that comes your way You go for it man!
I get the feeling from your follow-up that I may have offended you or come across as upset. I was just processing a tension that I genuinely struggle with. I wasn't angry whatsoever, but the truth be told, I probably have some anger issues along with the self-promotion problems :)
My suggestion regarding these anonymous posters - ignore them! If people won't post who they are when they leave comments, then they don't deserve to be taken seriously. I say congrats on all of the speaking engagements that you've been given lately.
I've always wrestled with the anonymous comments. Sometimes I disallow them if I feel like someone is trying to bait me or be divisive. But I also like that it is user-friendly and allows more voices to be heard.
Honestly, given the volume of readers I'm a little surprised that 99% of comments are positive and constructive. And sometimes I need a negative comment. If it's true I take it on the chin. If I feel like it's a waste of time I don't respond. And if I feel like it's a teaching point I'll comment on it.
Just wanted to make sure it was possible to leave a comment under my name without having a blogger account. It is.
Mark, my point about the anonymous commenters is that their comments don't deserve the same amount of attention as someone who leaves a comment with their name. I think it is great to allow comments from whomever. I just believe that when things get negative (or maybe even positive) in the comments, that the comments should be weighted based on who is commenting. Feedback from a close friend who really knows you, counts more than feedback from a random visitor to your blog. There's my 2 cents...
Very true. I have the same rule of thumb with criticism. Is it coming from someone who knows me or someone who doesn't know me. For example, I'm probably going to listen more to someone's criticism if they are a regular at NCC than a one-time visitor because a one-time visitor has a 1% perspective. I'm not saying that what they say can't be right, but I do try to put more stock in people I know and people who know me.
