I'm a complex football animal.
The Redskins are my adopted team. But I was born in Minneapolis so I loved the Vikings as a little kid. Then we moved to Wisconsin and I became a die hard cheesehead. I cried when the Packers lost which was frequently! I know you aren't supposed to like three teams. Especially three teams in the same conference. But what can I say? I'm a schizophrenic football fan.
When I lived in Wisconsin we had a little mantra: the pack is back. We said it every year and every year it was a lie. Those were dark days on the frozen tundra. But I've got to admit that the packers have totally taken me by surprise this year. And what a game last night. Anybody see Favre's touchdown toss in OT? Everybody else in our house was sleeping so I had a silent celebration. I was going nuts, screaming inside, jumping up and down quietly. It was like Mark on mute! The adrenaline was pumping so much that I couldn't fall asleep for another hour.
Yes, I am wearing my Favre jersey today.

Mark- Brian and I also had a "silent" celebration! And my son is wearing his Favre jersey today. Weird. But alas, the Pack must come here to Kansas City this Sunday and face the Chiefs, the only team #4 has not defeated in his career. We love Brett, but he won't beat the Chiefs!
Just like God rescuing someone that seems lost.....unbelievable!!!!
As a Minnesota native, I am required to root against the Packers. But I must admit (and may my brother never find out that I uttered these words), it's hard to dislike the Packers this year with a guy like Brett Favre at the helm. Good win last night Packers fans.
I am a Vikings fan as well (lived in MN 6 years after graduating from college) but I still root for Favre and the Packers...primarily because there is no one in the NFL that plays with as much heart and passion as Brett. (I wish the Church was like that. hehe)
But I was surprised there was no mention of the Redskins' score in your post. ;)
PM,
Are you wearing your Favre jersey today because your "other team" got trounced on Sunday by the Pats? Haha! I hope Brett gets another ring this year....can't believe the guy is still playing.
Terry
i did see that pass--amazing. as they said on sports center, 39 is the new 29.
Terry,
I wear my jerseys strategically :) And yes, sometimes I feel like that is wrong :) But it feels so right!
Mark
Strategically wearing your jerseys eh?
Where I come from we call those fair weather fans. :-p
At least you love Jesus like a superfan!
I'm being very transparent and feeling really vulnerable right now :) Can you be die hard and fair weather at the same time?
You know what's terrible...when the play each other!!!
Mark
PM,
"But what can I say? I'm a schizophrenic football fan." I think THAT says it all...:)
We all love you and your transparency; not many pastors would be as transparent as you are. I love your honesty and candidness!!
Keep scoring WINS for the ONE that matters!!
Where did you live in Wisconsin? I was born there, and we transplanted cheeseheads have to stick together!!
Yeah. I saw it all right. PAIN! favre is great...until he finally wins one in Denver...ouch.
rocks get smashed and the broncos get broken. bad week for denver sports fans. john in colorado
Used to live in the Milwaukee area when I was kid. A town called Greendale.
I'm with ya on the Pack, Mark. Big Packer fandom at my house. Of course, I also like the Colts and the Panthers, so there.
Mark,
I started up a sports/faith blog a few weeks ago. I meant to email you about it but cant remember if i did or not. Anyway, had to poke a little fun at you for this post over at the site. Check it out (and feel free to repost the picture over here if you find it amusing)
Prayers For Blowouts
Mark,
You are going to be a little jealous on this one. But for Pastor Appreciation one of our people took me to the Monday night game. It was amazing. The face value on my ticket was $310. Great seats, great game, great company. What a great gift. Favre is still the real deal.
Doug,
Where's the love bro? I'm officially jealous!
Mark
Bryan,
Hilarious picture! Thanks for the laugh.
Mark
