One Year Ago Today

Bookmark and Share

Just thought I'd pause and reflect for a moment.

One year ago today, In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, came off the press! It hit #41 on Amazon.com on day one and five printings later it still seems to be gaining momentum. One of the lessons I learned as a first time author is that you can't really expect huge sales out of the gate because nobody knows who you are! You have to rely on word of mouth and word of mouse. But if people like the book they tell other people about the book and you get a second generation of readers. And if they really like the book you might get a third or fourth generation of readers. It is much slower than putting a book on the best-seller rack at Barnes and Noble! But it has been so amazing to see God network this book over the past year! Every reader is an answer to prayer!

Only seems appropriate to offer some kind of anniversary sale so if you'd like to get a case of books (24 copies) shoot an email to resources@theaterchurch.com and we'll hook you up!

I absolutely LOVE this book! So much so, in fact, that I have bought (to date) about 28 copies and given them all away. I even gave a copy to my son's high school Bible teacher - this year he studies about OT history. She loved it so much - she is going to have the kids read it! I have sent copies from Texas to California - great book - published at just the right time for many of us! Thanks!
Looking forward to the next book!

Anon,

It's not #66. I wish it was!

It was below 1000 for about two months. It's still hanging in the 2000-5000 range about a year later which is pretty good retention I think. But I'm a first-time author so I don't have a lot to compare it to.

I'm still waiting for something worth writing about to come my way...something original enough to not copy someone, but ordinary enough that people care about it. Until then, I'm trying to do the grassroots thing with a new web company for churches. www.updatablechurch.com

Hey Mark,

Just wanted to say that the "seller list" doesn't mean a whole lot...I have read your book twice and borrowed it both times. So there are probably a lot of people like me who have read this awesome book and never have owned a copy (yet). I'm sure if everyone who has read this book didn't borrow it and bought their own copy, that your rating would be much much higher. I know that I am going to buy my copy soon! Keep up the awesome writing. Waiting for the next book.

Pastor,

I'm not sure what to say, it is hard for me to even type this message, but if were able to convey the last 6-days to you, and how it truly seems, and would be unbelieveable to most, but I tell you in a humble spirit, that in the midst of some really tough circumstances the past six days, my father had an aortic tear and ultimate aortic valve replacement, my mother took too many pain meds and almost died, catch is they are divorced, but ended up in the same hospital, both with breathing tubes... Anyway, I want to tell you, that it is as if our Lord engineered these circumstances in order that I would read your book. A book that has been in my library for at least 6-months, just collecting dust. I'm an active and alive Christian, I'm a risk-taker Pastor, but let me tell you that your book is really ministering me. I only wish I were reading it with about 5 other brothers and/or sisters in Christ. I will recommend it to many. Possibly my whole family (immediate and extended). There is so much I wish to say/write, but I'll just say, I love you Pastor, and thanks for being the vessel that our Lord and Saviour has found favor in and using your talents for His gain! God richly bless and keep you and your family (that in Jesus Christ). Peace and love, Gene Mattinlgy

Gene,

We prayed that God would put the book in the right hands at the right time and it sounds like He has answered that prayer one more time!

So glad the book has been a blessing!

Mark
