I spent most of yesterday working with our CFO on our 2008 budget. It's always a little overwhelming trying to crunch the numbers! But I really believe that faith and finances are so inter-related. Our budgets have a way of revealing our true priorities and passions. So I think budgeting is a healthy exercise for all of us.
I'm so grateful for an amazing stewardship team that provides financial oversight and accountability for NCC! I'm part of the conversation. And our staff presents the budgets. But it our Stewardship Team that approves our annual budget.
As I think about 2008, two of my BHAGs would be:
1) giving $500,000 to missions.
I think missions giving is the financial engine that drives NCC. I believe God has blessed us because He knows we aren't going to keep the blessing to ourselves. The day will come that we're giving millions of dollars to missions every year. But we've got to take it one year at a time. I think we can hit the half-a-million mark next year if we give sacrificially.
2) opening a second coffeehouse
I'm not sure where and I'm not sure when. But I've always believed that Ebenezers could become a chain of coffeehouses. I'd love to get a second location in 2008. I don't know if we buy it or rent it. But I'd love to open a second Ebenezers somewhere in the city. A coffeehouse on Wisconsin Avenue or M Street in Georgetown would be a-mazing!

We're trying to figure out the logistics of opening a coffeehouse in Pottstown, PA (near Valley Forge Christian College)...wanna make it easy for us...FRANCHISE???? :)
We've just started kicking around the idea of starting a coffe house, too. Any way I could talk with someone at Ebz that could give us some direction?
Sure thing! Our coffeehouse manger is Michelle. You can reach her at michelle.warren (at) theaterchurch.com.
Blessings,
Mark
That was quick, thanks!
