For the Love of Pizza
Today may be my definition of a long day. I got up at 4:30 AM and we didn't get home until after midnight! Parker and I spent ten hours at Chicago O'Hare. We were on a flight that had mechanical problems so we had to deplane. We were standby on another flight that had one spot, but there were two of us so we missed that flight. We finally got the last flight out of Chicago.
That is the bad news. Here is the good news.
Before the day unraveled, I thought we'd have a two-hour layover so we ordered a pizza from the closest Lou Malnati's in Elk Grove. We hailed a round-trip taxi. And Parker and I devoured a large pepperoni deep dish in the backseat of the taxi. I think the taxi driver thought we were crazy. The entire cab smelled like a pizza sauna. And the windows were all steamed up because it was hot.
I love Lou Malnati's! Best pizza on the planet.

It's good.
I'm more of a Giordano's fan. Also give Gino's East a try sometime.
Oh man...you're making me hungry for some Chicago deep dish...
I haven't had Chicago pizza in three years...I am so jealous!
We ate at Gino's East when we went to the Small Groups Conference (AncientFuture) in late September. Very, very good pizza. I'm still partial to Uno's though.
A very different type of pie, but simply outstanding is Red's Savoy Pizza in the St. Paul area. Next time you visit us on the frozen tundra let me know and I'll buy Savoy's!

I'm a Chi-town girl, and the saddest thing about living in South Florida is that the pizza extremely sucks here! Lou's is good, but Gino's East is great!
The best part is that you and Parker will have a great story to share for years to come..."remember when we ate pizza in the back of a taxi..."
Hey all,
Here is my top 5 for what it's worth:
1) Malnati's
2) Gino's
3) Eduardo's
4) Giordano's
5) Leonardo's
There you have it. I love Gino's East for ambiance and the pie is great. And there was an Eduardo's on the campus at the University of Chicago that I loved in college. But Malnati's is still my top pick.
Here's to Chicago pizza!

I fully agree with your choice of Gino's over Giordano's - Gino's uses just the right amount of sauce :) (And at Wheaton, Gino's was closer to walk to than Giordano's for a freshman with no car!)
Ahhh...gotta love Chicago pizza! I haven't had Malnati's but I do love a good Chicago Deep Dish. My favorite is Giordano's.

Here's the real question:
Did you give the cab driver a piece of the pizza? If not I believe that could be considered torture.
We offered him a slice, but believe it or not, he said no! Unimaginable! So Parker and I finished off an entire large pizza by ourselves!
