Just finished the book, and I really appreciate your passion that bleeds through the ink and paper. I really needed the jolt as I just finished my first book, "How Heaven Ruined My Life: One Man's Journey In Search of A Father" which walks the parallel of growing up without a dad, and my search to find the Father. Looking for publishing now, any advice or connections you can help me with?

Wallace,

So hard to know where it start. I think it helps to have an agent. That way you can focus on writing and they can help you network and negotiate.

Also, I self published my first book just to prove to myself that I could do it. And that self-published book helped open some doors because it gave me a little credibility.

So glad the book was a blessing.

I now "In a Pit.." exceeded expectations (at least in the publishers mind). But 6 printings seems odd. Is that normal? Would it make sence to have print a bunch the first time around, or does it not make that much difference? Just wondering.

Congradulations! Such a great book. And for all of you fellow church leaders out there; plan a "chase the lion" series. Trust me, from my viewpoint it had the most powerful impact of anything else we have done

Dan,

The first few printings weren't as big as the last three. We're doing much larger print runs now. I think we did smaller ones because we didn't expect it to do what it has done. Each printing is a huge blessing. I'm hoping for 10+ printings :)

Congrats! I really enjoyed reading the book and using it along with the study guide last fall with the youth group from church. I pray that it continues to encourage and inspire others to break out of the ordinary into the extraordinary.

I'm in the middle of reading In A Pit with A Lion.... I've been reading your blog for a while, but just picked up the book a couple of weeks ago. It's been an appointment with destiny - right where I am in life and ministry. Incredibly challenging and incredibly encouraging at the same time. Our small group is about to start using it and I'm going to take our children's ministry team through it as well.
Thanks for letting the Lord use you!
Blessings!!

Wallace,

I'd encourage you to think about going to the Mount Hermon Writers Conference in CA.

http://www.mounthermon.org/writers/

My wife has gone to it multiple times.

Besides the info you learn, you get a chance to submit your writing and meet face-to-face with people from the major Christian publishing houses.

From the site... "registrants receive a free manuscript critique service that would cost $25 to $50 per manuscript at other conferences. Hands-on suggestions by people in the industry can really make a difference for writers at any stage of their careers. One-on-one manuscript reviews continue all five days."

It was there that my wife met her agent and eventually got her book contract.

It's also a really good place to meet other fellow authors who are trying to (or have already) make it in that arena.

Anyway, it's just an idea from what I know has helped my wife!

Thanks, Mark. We're looking into possibly buying a case, but I'll take it up with the "resources" people.
Peace!

Mark,

Thank You so much for letting God speak through you in writing Chasing a Lion.

It has been an amazing inspiration in my life and other men in my circle of friends.

We are planning a mens group study of the book starting in Feburary.

I am eagerly anticipating what God is going to do in the lives of the men in the group and than in our church as whole.

Thank you again for your faithfulness in writing such an eye opening and God inspired book.

Chasing a Lion has challenged me to get God out of the box I had created and let Him be as big as he wants.

My name is David and I'm so amazed at God's perfect timing of this message written in this book.
I received the book get this "ON A SNOWY DAY" it snowed here in the Richmond Virginia area on 1/12/08.
I picked up my girlfriend Loretta from the Richmond International Airport late Saturday 1/12/08 around 11:30 from her trip from Springfield MO.
Loretta left the book lying on my kitchen table Sunday. On Monday when I thanked her for the book and asked if she had read the book she said no it had been in her car, but she said she read a couple of sentences. The book as I latter learned was given to her, and some other members from church to read before they were to leave on their mission trip to Africa this past summer.
Mark, Loretta did not know that I was facing a Lion, (and that I still am). Let me explain: I recently lost my job while she was out of town, I did not tell her this right away (I did not want her to come home to bad news, honestly, I was worried, puzzled, and ashamed to tell her, because it's not the first time that this has happened), I told her on Monday. I have been reading your book since Monday, and I'm on page 114. I am a non-fiction reader, because it is reality, and I love things that make me think and help me to grow. I want to visit your church soon, and meet you and your family. Like so many of us, there is so much to my life, and this story. Thank you Lord Jesus, for using Mark, his family, and church family to witness to the world, and to encourage all by simply obeying you. Letting our lives be a living testimony to our Lord Jesus.

God Bless, and thank you for the encouragement, and edification.
