Book Sampler

Bookmark and Share

Just finished up a sampler for my next book, Wild Goose Chase. Should get printed in the next month and it'll consist of the introduction plus two chapters. The goal is to give people a taste of the book so they want to read the whole thing.

In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day didn't get much play because it was my first book. But Multnomah is putting a lot more marketing muscle behind the release of Wild Goose Chase.

I also start meeting with a coach this week who works with some Random House authors. I feel called to write, and I want to get on a book a year pace, so I want to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can. Writing books is half the battle. Getting people to read them is the other half. Pretty steep learning curve. But I'm loving the climb.

I picked up your first book at the churchplanters.com conference. I am enjoying reading it and working through it so far. It is very uplifting and challenging at the same time.

What prompted you to write your first book? I'll look forward to the second.

You should post a small sample of your book on your blog.

Hey Ben,

Felt called to write in Seminary, but it was a long time in coming. Took more than a decade to write my first book. I think that was God being gracious to readers :) I actually self-published my first book just to prove to myself that I could do it.

Blessings,

Mark

Mark, this is actually a different Ben. I read In A Pit and thought it was great...got to see you speak at a Pastor's thing down near Slidell, LA. and wish I would have asked you this in person. But here goes...

In a Pit has encouraged me to begin writing my first book. It's something I also feel called to do, but have been a little scared of. Just wandering if you had any tips for a first time writer. What was most challenging? How long did it take you? Did someone edit it? How did you pursue getting it published? Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ben,

Here's a link to a post I did a while back on my writing journey. I think it might help.

You can also search the blog. I've blogged about lessons learned quite a bit. Try searching for "writing tips" or "publishing."

Blessings,

Mark
