Our digital pastor, David Russell, just shared some interesting webcast stats with me. Total viewing time in 2007 was 14,958,439 seconds or a little more than 173 days. We delivered 1,132,691 megabytes of total data. And our webcast reached all 50 states plus 83 countries. Can you say word of mouse!
I view our webcast as church on demand. Props to Dave Clark, our pastor of media, for that concept. It's certainly NO SUBSTITUTE for church. But it's a great supplement. It not only expands our worldwide influence exponentially. We're also discovering that more and more people watch the webcast before visiting a service. It's our taste test.
For what it's worth, 54% of our attenders visited theaterchurch.com before coming to a service. This is old news but a healthy reminder: your website is the front door to your church! It's your first impression. Especially with our demographic--about 66% of NCCers are single twenty-somethings.
When Jesus said, "Go into all the world," I think he meant by all means possible. I think "the world" includes places like facebook and myspace. We're actually putting together a facebook advertising campaign right now. After all, that is the demographic we're going after! I think we need to rethink the way we define influence. And we need to keep redeeming technology and using it for God's purposes!
In the words of the Apostle Paul: "I become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might reach some."

Thanks for sharing this Mark. As someone who does online ministry I find it highly encouraging to see how effective your digital ministry is!
True 'dat, Mark. I would say that even before it's your front door, your website is your curb appeal.
(and email is your mailbox...your logo is your paint color...facebook is the group of guys grilling in the driveway drinking beer...okay, now I've taken the analogy way too far)
Bryan,
I'd just add "playing corn hole."
Mark
MARK -
Thanks to you and DAVID for the reminder. Looking forward to seeing you at WHITEBOARD. Our Chase the Lion series (Jan & Feb this year) was a huge hit and took our church, leaders and small groups to a new level. Thanks for being YOU! Now we are going to chase the goose???? Be blessed

From the Rule of Benedict: CHAPTER LXVI
Of the Porter of the Monastery
Let a wise old man be placed at the door of the monastery, one who knoweth how to take and
give an answer, and whose mature age doth not permit him to stray about.
The porter should have a cell near the door, that they who come may always find one present
from whom they may obtain an answer. As soon as anyone knocketh or a poor person calleth, let
him answer, "Thanks be to God," or invoke a blessing, and with the meekness of the fear of God
let him return an answer speedily in the fervor of charity. If the porter hath need of assistance, let
him have a younger brother.
Your web site is excellent - it is welcoming and hospitable!
best wishes from a well-received visitor
Mark, your blog is great. I enjoyed your Carpe Digital session last August in Indy and will be @ Awaken.

Pastor Mark,
Wow things are changing so fast. I may be able to see you and everyone at NCC Union Station and Ebenezers in June. As soon as I actually have the palne ticket in my hand I will let you know. I really do need to talk toyouface to face. I have some thing to contribute to your next book.I have learned so much since dealing with the grief and loss of my mother and separating myself from a bad relationship.
