Spring Break

Our family is going to spend spring break in the LA area. I'm speaking at the Southern California District Council next week. The following week I'm speaking at the Awaken Conference. In between, our family is going to hang out in sunny Southern California.

We'll definitely hit Disneyland and Catalina Island for sure. Anybody have any "must see" or "must do" ideas? Sure wish I could get Summer in to see a taping of American Idol, but that seems next to impossible. We might try to hit another TV taping.

Looking forward to chilling with the family for a week!

I didn't want to brag, but have you checked your bracket standings? I am tied at 158!

My first round could have been better! That's what I get for choosing local teams. George Mason got crushed. Of course, if Georgetown goes all the way I'm good to go. Come on Hoyas!

Santa Monica is pretty cool, The Promenade is great if you want to do a lot of shopping. Don't forget to eat at In-N-Out!

My wife and I love LA! We are actually going there for her spring break (she is a teacher) April 7-11. Anyway I recommend going to the WB studio for a tour. It is fun and there is a great chance you will see someone famous. When we went we went on the set of ER and Gilmore Girls. We also saw Scooby Doo, and where the Dukes of Hazard was filmed. I also recommend Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles (http://www.roscoeschickenandwaffles.com/.) It is a local restaurant that is fairly famous. I don’t know if your kids would be into it or not (there may be an age limit) but you could go to a taping of the Price is Right. My final suggestion is to go see the Lakers play. Lots of famous people and you never know what Kobe will do. Just a few thoughts.

Todd & I lived in San Diego for 11 years. You HAVE to go there...better than LA! In SD consider: Lego Land, Sea World, Wild Animal Park, SD Zoo a must, Horton Plaza which is downtown, SeaPort Village close to Horton Plaza, Visit the Hotel Del & Bike on Coronado Island where we lived, Ride the trolley to Tijuana and you must eat fish tacos at Rubio's which is a fast food franchise all over SD and LA county. If you like Mexican it is the best in SD.

Hey PM, I might get a chance to drive up from SD to see you speak next Tuesday. So keep an eye out for one of the many NCC alum.

Hey Mark,

Universal Studios is pretty cool, I've not been there for a while, but I'm sure it would be fun. Also, there are the La Brea Tar pits, which might be interesting. Also, the Getty Museum is supposed to be amazing, lots of cool stuff. Although the kids might get bored!

Mark: You absolutely MUST listen to episode #58 of The WDW Raido Show at http://www.wdwradio.com/ and available in the iTunes store

I just finished listening to it this morning and it will provide valuable info for you and your family if you choose to go. Load it on your MP3 player and listen to it while you are about town in your car, on your bike or whatever.

I lived in LA for about 6 months in Westwood right across the street from UCLA. If you want a greta place, many people said them already like In 'N Out, Roscoes Chicken and Waffles, Its actually called Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica is pretty cool shopping area. But the place is a place called Diddy Riese in Westwood real close to campus. They serve Ice Cream Sandwiches but they are in their own home baked cookies. They are a dollar a piece (at least when I was there) and are worth every cent. My wife and I limited our trips to 2 or 3 times a week cause we were scared we would gain to much weight.

Hey Mark,

These are some of the cool places to see in SoCal:

Santa Monica
Old Town Pasadena
Universal Studios (& City Walk)
Downtown Hollywood (at least to see the stars and Mann's Chinese Theatre)
The Grove (in Hollywood...also where The Price is Right is/was filmed as well as AI)
Venice Beach
Magic Mountain (6 Flags...if you're kids are into that)

Of course, San Diego and Santa Barbara are very nice as well, but you'll have to do a bit of driving to get there.

...just my 2 cents...

Mark,

We just went last fall. I would recommend: WB Studios (besides hanging out with Mitch Kupchak ... my husband went to college with him... for a few hours) it was the highlight of our trip. If you go to San Diego Old Town is great for an hour or so, but I thought the zoo was rather outdated. And living on the East Coast if you've been to Disney World it is so much better than Disneyland that I wouldn't waste my time.

Downtown Hollywood was good. And we ate at Baby Blues BBQ near Santa Monica (it was previewed on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives). I live in NC and thought it was good food.

The Channel Islands look cool. Santa Monica Pier was a fun time also.

I just got back from taking my grandkids to Disneyworld. Whatever you do take really good walking shoes--I'm talking REALLY good!! My feet will take weeks to recover from my mistake. Enjoy...it was a blast for us.

Ditto for Claim Jumper. :)

Some other ideas:
-Mastro's Steakhouse (Bev Hills, Thousand Oaks or Costa Mesa--share a steak w/Lora [it's so big and so rich you'll still be sick!] and definitely get a Buttercake!!)
-Crystal Cathedral (very close to Disneyland)
-Long Beach Aquarium
-Reagan Library (Simi Valley)
-Hollywood (not all that, but you can say you've been there!)
-San Diego Zoo

Send pics! :)

Most of the regular cool spots have already been mentioned but here's of few of ours:

*Pink's Hot Dogs- Melrose & LaBrea www.pinkshollywood.com
*L.A. Dream Center Thursday Night service-7pm
*Hollywood & Highland complex (tour the Kodak Theatre where the Oscars are held, shopping, walk of fame, restaurants, etc. + decent view of Hollywood sign)
*Disney's El Capitan Theater-Hollywood Blvd.
*Lakers game
*Cheesecake Factory Beverly Hills-common restaurant but awesome location!
*Try eating at the Blue Bayou inside Disneyland; it's inside Pirates of the Caribbean and the Monte Cristo sandwich is famous.

Mark,

I only saw one other person mention it, but the Reagan Library is right here in Simi Valley and is our crown jewel. Fabulous place, really. They have the only Air Force One on display that you can tour and they just opened an new Air Force One Simulator for kids.

Would love take you for a tour if you want to hook up .... or not.

Blessings!
